Playboy Set To Release Issue Shot Entirely By Embattled Photographer Terry Richardson (PHOTO)

In an effort likely to boost newsstand sales, Playboy magazine has announced it will be teaming up with scandal-plagued photographer Terry Richardson to release a special 100-page issue shot entirely by Richardson. The issue, called California Dreamin', will be released in February 2015.

Richardson teased the collaboration on his blog with an announcement that the issue was due out this Septembe. When website Jezebel asked Playboy for information about the upcoming issue, a spokesperson responded: "Richardson's latest collaboration with Playboy is a 100-page special edition of the magazine titled California Dreamin' in which he photographed four Playmates in a variety of iconic California locations from Joshua Tree to The Chateau Marmont. This special edition is actually set to hit newsstands around Valentine's Day 2015. Playboy's July/August 2014 issue (on newsstands now) features a 6-page preview of California Dreamin', and the magazine plans to run additional previews of California Dreamin' in its December 2014 and January/February 2015 issues."

As fas as confirmation of the release date, the spokesperson said, "We are releasing our annual Playmate calendar in September, and have a few additional projects in the pipeline which are scheduled for release around the same time. Instead of competing with ourselves on the newsstands, we decided to push publication of California Dreamin' to early 2015."

Richardson has come under fire in recent months for accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior and has lost some accounts as a result of those allegations. Playboy has a working history with Richardson (he shot the 2014 Diesel calendar that came with their Kate Moss 60th anniversary issue, and is also responsible for a 2009 cover of the magazine) which shows no signs of abating: "Terry has shot for the magazine many times over the years, and has been a great partner."
