Fox continues to release teaser trailers for its upcoming Batman prequel series, Gotham. In a corrupt city full of villains, a rookie cop played by Ben McKenzie (Southland) has to become the hero and protect a little boy from danger.

In the DC Comics mythology, the Dark Knight and police commissioner James Gordon have been at odds with each other since they first met. The two have fought each other about as many times they have teamed-up together. The live-action series will explore their tumultuous relationship right from the very beginning.

The video starts off with a loud scream. In a scene that comic book fans know all too well, young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) has just witnessed the death of his parents. In a shot straight from the comics, the camera swoops up, revealing in full view the twisted slaying.

But then the TV show veers away from the mythology, introducing Gordon as the detective assigned to the Wayne murders. Sympathizing with the boy's plight, the police officer asks the orphan to remain strong.

It's interesting how the series continues with the aftermath of the infamous murders. We see Gordon with his partner, Harvey Bullock (played by Donal Logue) attending the Wayne parents' funeral, as if they're looking for suspects. Usually in the comics, we just time-jump ahead and see Wayne as an adult, donning the Bat-suit.

The TV series looks like it's heading towards uncharted territory. Even comic book fans will be wondering what's going to happen next, especially with appearance of mob boss, Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith).

The pilot of Gotham will be presented at San Diego Comic-Con. Readers, are you excited to see the show on September 22?
