Doctor Who's eighth season is going to be one of the darkest according to the first extended trailer for the 2014 episodes starring Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor. It looks like this year we're going to see an entirely different approach from head writer Steven Moffat and his team. Alongside a weary Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), will the Doctor fall into more bad habits or come out a hero in these upcoming adventures?

"I don't think I know who the Doctor is anymore," Clara repeats in this extended trailer.

"I'm the Doctor. I've lived for over 2,000 years. I've made many mistakes. It's about time I did something about that," the Twelfth Doctor exclaims to Clara in the first footage of Peter Capaldi's new portrayal of the iconic character.

"Where are we going?" Clara asks her new Doctor.

His response: "Into darkness."

We then see some familiar friends and foes, mixed in with a slew of interesting and new adventures we're sure to eat up when season eight premieres August 23. Will you be watching?

As you could probably tell, another voice is heard in this previews: that of a Dalek!

"Life returns," the villain says. "Life prevails."

This makes us think that us Whovians can expect a return of the Doctor's biggest enemies in a big way! What are you expecting from season eight?
