Looks like things are switching up at Saturday Night Live. After just one season, 27-year-old Brooks Wheelan has been let go from NBC's legendary late night sketch show. The news was broken by Wheelan himself when he tweeted to his 32,000 Twitter followers earlier this evening.

As told by The Hollywood Reporter, a close source originally claimed the cast member's contract was not renewed but word about any other terminations has not yet come out.

Naturally, Wheelan's recent firing is leaving many to wonder just what the fates of other Season 39 newcomers will be, including Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, John Milhisner, Noel Wells, Mike O'Brien and Sasheer Zamata. More decisions are expected to arise this coming August from Executive Producer Lorne Michaels.

As a last-minute addition to the Season 39 cast, it's been said that Wheelan had very little experience in sketch and character work, something he's been known to joke about in the past.

While his expertise in those areas may be lacking, the young funnyman made a name for himself in the Los Angeles comedy scene through his stand up comedy, which is why Michaels originally brought him on.

Wheelan won't be the only cast member missing as Season 40 makes it's way to the airwaves. Longtime SNL comedian Nasim Pedrad is leaving to star in the FOX series Mulaney, which was created by and stars former SNL writer John Mulaney.
