The folks at Badass Digest have reportedly acquired an earlier version of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 script that contains numerous changes from the product released in theaters. Some of the changes are minor, but some are quite significant and others are just plain confusing.

[WARNING: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 SPOILERS BELOW]

Firstly, Shailene Woodley filmed some scenes as Mary Jane Watson. She is Peter's neighbor with a Spider-Man tattoo on her wrist and clearly has an interest in Peter, though he is still devoted to Gwen. Spider-Man confronts Mary Jane's abusive, alcoholic father at one point and tells him to treat his daughter properly.

Near the end of the movie, Gwen comes to Peter's house before she heads to London. He's not home, but she meets Mary Jane. They are friendly toward each other and MJ says she always attracts jerks, so she asks Gwen for advice on landing a guy like Peter. "Date a nerd," Gwen replies.

J. Jonah Jameson is in the original script, along with Robbie Robertson. Peter, an Empire State University student, brings some Spider-Man photos to JJ, who gives him a tour of The Daily Bugle and complains the Internet is killing the newspaper business. Humorously, Spider-Man and Electro crash through the building and smash the printing presses during their first fight.

In the original script, Peter does give his blood to Harry Osborn; in the theatrical release, Spider-Man does not and Harry injects himself with the spider venom. The Green Goblin suit also gets a better explanation in the original script. It's not for general military use, but rather was designed specifically and secretly for Norman Osborn. Harry finds it in Norman's boathouse.

Gwen Stacy's death is mostly the same, but she hangs on long enough to tell Peter not to give up in the original script. He promptly quits being Spider-Man in the next scene. But fortunately, his father, Richard Parker, returns from presumed death and tells his son he has been watching him for years and knows he is Spider-Man. He tells him to keep going and actually utters the line, "With great power comes great responsibility."
