The royal baby is about to celebrate his first birthday, and all we can think is boy that went fast.

Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton's son Prince George is getting ready to turn 1, and the Duke is saying that his son is growing up pretty quickly. William just launched the Fields in Trust Centenary Fields campaign during a trip to the Coventry's War Memorial Park, where he spoke with some of crowd members about his son.

He talked to Gill Naylor, a schoolteacher, joking "I think George will be running faster than me very soon." He also spoke to a resident named Mavis Jarvis about his bouncing bundle of joy. Jarvis told E! News that Prince William said, "George is charging around and opens doors," and that William had nothing but nice things to say about his son even calling him "lovely" at one point.

Some of the attendees at the Fields in Trust launch even gave William some gifts to bring home to Kate and the baby. The Earlsdon Primary School gave him a plaque with the name "George" written out in Scrabble letters.

While talking to Freda Jones, who witnessed the opening of the park back in 1927, Wills wondered aloud about his own earliest memories, saying, "I often think back and wonder what was my earliest recognition and how young I was when I [had] it."

We bet he may also have pondered what Prince George will recall one day as his first memory.
