The World Cup has finished and the suffering teams that didn't do so well have barely had a chance to get a drink and wipe away their tears, and they've already been hit with more news. Today the latest FIFA world rankings were released and it's good news for some, and horrific for others. The World Cup is the biggest tournament on earth, so those who performed have truly been rewarded, whilst the others will have more sorrow to contend with. It was good news for USA, Germany and Costa Rica, but bad news for England and Spain. How will they bounce back?

England, the home of football, were perhaps the most punished team. They slipped to 20th in the rankings, meaning they have dropped 10 places, and they're now below Costa Rica and USA. This is England's lowest position since 1996. Spain, who entered Brazil as the defending champions, dropped from first to eighth place, whilst World Cup winners Germany topped the rankings for the first time in two decades.

Check out the top ten below:

World top 10 (compared to June rankings)

1 - Germany (+1)

6 - Uruguay (+1)

2 - Argentina (+3)

7 - Brazil (-4)

3 - Netherlands (+12)

8 - Spain (-7)

4 - Colombia (+4)

9 - Switzerland (-3)

5 - Belgium (+6)

10 - France (+7)

Is this a fair assessment of the world rankings after the World Cup? From here on the teams will look to win their upcoming games and climb their way back to the top again, but it'll take some good form for teams like England to oust the likes of Costa Rica and USA.
