'Grey's Anatomy' Season 11 Spoilers - Shonda Rimes Teases Time Jump, Which Character Will Be Focus Of New Season?

The premiere of Grey's Anatomy is a little more than 2 months away and we couldn't be more excited to catch up with Meredith and the rest of the Seattle Grace gang.

When we left off, we lost a cast member in Christina, gained a new one in Maggie, Mer's half-sister, and learned that Derek might be moving across country. When we catch up with crew, this fall, we will see them still dealing with all these issues.

But creator Shonda Rimes has promised a time-jump when the new season stars, so how far will we be traveling into the future?

"About 24 hours... maybe," Rimes tells TVLine. Fans can be sure that they will still see Meredith dealing with her best friend moving around the world, and her husband possibly moving across the country.

As far as who the season will be based around, Shonda promises that the writers are going back to basics and focusing on the girl the show is named after... Meredith Grey.

"Right now, if you were in the writers' room, you would probably tell me that the theme is 'Meredith,'" the creator says. "Because all I keep saying is, 'The show is just about Meredith Grey!'"

"It's a really Meredith-centric season," Rimes adds. "She's lost her 'person,' her [half-] sister has shown up, her husband is chafing to go someplace else..."

When it comes to Maggie, the daughter of Richard Webber and Ellis Grey, Meredith will definitely be bringing what she learned from her relationship with sister Lexie into this new territory. "[It] will be influenced by what Meredith went through with Lexie," Shonda explains.

The secret half-sibling making her debut is something that Rimes and her creative team have been looking to include in the show for a while now. "annnnd... we're there,' and they all [cheered]." She says when she told them that the show was ready for Maggie. "So it's pretty exciting."

The 11 season of Grey's Anatomy will premiere on September 25 on ABC.
