NVidia's portable gaming console, Shield, made a big impact last year when it was introduced, but a lack of games sent gamers in the other direction. The tech company is reaching back out to gamers this week by announcing a brand new Shield gaming tablet and a Shield wireless controller. Will these new products be enough for hardcore PC gamers to give NVidia another chance?

"There are many tablets out there but this is the first specifically designed for gaming," NVidia rep Andrew Coonrad says in the promotional announcement video for the company's new technology. "With Shield tablet, we set out to redefine mobile gaming ... it's super fast and comes with all of the graphics that serious gamers have come to love."

"Shield tablet gives you graphics performance that no other tablet can provide," he continues, "so you can enjoy PC-class gaming on the go."

From there, the announce video goes on to talk about the wireless controller and the tablet cover, which are perfect for the new tablet.

"This is the only tablet with NVidia game-stream technology," Coonrad adds.

Gamma Squad reports:

The tablet, which will cost $300 for a 16GB WiFi version shipping next week and $400 for a 32GB LTE version arriving in August, is packing quite a bit of firepower, however. It's shipping with the Tegra K1, NVidia's insanely fast mobile processor, which it claims has more computing power than a PS3 or an Xbox 360. NVidia says it can run Unreal Engine 4, for example.
