After much deliberation and hesitation, Sony has finally clarified its plan for The Amazing Spider-Man film franchise for the next few years.

The Hollywood Reporter says the studio has dated The Sinister Six movie for Nov. 11, 2016 and pushed The Amazing Spider-Man 3 back to 2018. Sony had previously announced The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 for June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018, respectively.

"With Sinister Six in the hands of writer-director Drew Goddard, we feel extremely confident placing the film on a prime date in 2016," said Doug Belgrad, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group.

The Sinister Six is a group of Spider-Man's greatest foes. The original lineup in 1964 featured Doctor Octopus, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Sandman and Vulture. Jamie Foxx played Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

It seems, though, that Dane DeHaan's Green Goblin would lead the team in The Sinister Six. The rest of the roster is unclear at this time.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 received a lukewarm reception from critics and earned approximately $300 million less than the studio expected. Alex Kurtzman recently offered some not-so-encouraging words about the state of the franchise to Collider.

"It's still in conversation," he said. "Everybody is still figuring it out. It's all up for grabs right now. We're just trying to figure it out."

To further complicate matters, Kurtzman offered a noncommittal response about a connection between Sinister Six and Venom. "Everything is still on the table, right now," he said. "Because it's a universe outside of the Spider-Man universe, even though it's connected to it, those movies have to stand on their own. So, we'll see. We'll see how it goes."
