WWE Rumors: Why Fans Should Be Excited for Brock Lesnar's Title Match with John Cena at SummerSlam [POLL]

"Ladies and gentleman, my name...is Paul Heyman..."

With those eight words, the main event of SummerSlam was set. Okay, the main event was probably set months ago and we've known about it for weeks, but it was made official on Monday Night Raw this week when Heyman and MY CLIENT Brock Lesnar returned to challenge John Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Moreover, Heyman promised not just to take the title, but to brutalize, injure and destroy Cena and THEN take the title. If you have yet to see Heyman's promo from Monday, stop reading and go check it out because the man delivered brilliance again.

Raw was an excellent show from top to bottom on Monday, and that's something I haven't been able to say in quite a while. It confounds me that WWE can deliver a show like Battleground, which had some great wrestling but not-so-great plot development, and then produce a brilliant episode of Raw 24 hours later. Raw was so good that I KNEW Lesnar was coming (seriously, I would have bet my left arm on it without hesitation) and my pulse still pounded when the Beast Incarnate emerged on the stage.

And yet, some members of the IWC still managed to find a reason to complain. "Oh look, another part-timer back to the main event and the title." "Lesnar vs. Cena? BORING. This match is gonna suck."

So let me get this straight. This monster of a human being, this mountain of a man, returns to WWE after breaking The Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania 30 to maim the man the IWC hates more than anyone else, and fans are upset about it?

This match is going to be brutal, rough and downright uncomfortable to watch at times, I'm sure. It's not going to win any awards for technical prowess, but Lesnar works as stiffly as anyone who's ever stepped into the ring, and every blow he delivers looks like it could knock his opponent unconscious. Every shoulder tackle in the corner or clothesline or suplex makes you cringe, but in the right way.

The title bout will also have that big fight feel that's missing from so many of WWE's lesser pay-per-views. Say what you want about Lesnar, but the man draws money, plain and simple. He's a legitimate fighter with UFC Championships to show for it. He truly is the only special attraction WWE can bring in that makes casual fans and other fighting fans say, "I gotta see this."

People can moan and complain all they want about how a part-timer is hogging another main event spot and how Cena is once again at the top of the mountain, but this move makes perfect sense in terms of the storyline WWE has presented over the last few months. Lesnar accomplished a feat that 17 other men failed to accomplish across three decades when he conquered the streak. What else can he do now but go after the belt, and who better to take it from than the man who has been the top dog in the company for a decade?

Whoever beats Lesnar for the title after this instantly becomes a legitimate, credible alpha male in the WWE locker room. If Roman Reigns or anyone else beats him at WrestleMania 31, then his victory is that much more impressive because of the opponent and the way in which he won the belt.

Now, rumors are floating around that Lesnar will beat Cena at SummerSlam and then drop the belt back to him in a rematch at Night of Champions, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense in the humble opinion of this one fan. It does nothing for either man or for the title to hot potato it between them in the span of a month.

But how's this for a hypothetical storyline? Triple H and Stephanie McMahon want the WWE World Heavyweight Championship back under the control of the Authority. Fair enough, but we all know nobody controls Brock Lesnar but Heyman, and he can barely do it. So have Lesnar win the belt, retain at Night of Champions and then disappear from WWE television for months.

I know fans are conditioned to seeing the champion on TV week after week, but the Brock Lesnar we see on WWE television plays by no such rules. This is professional wrestling, so that arbitrary rule about defending the title every 30 days can go right out the window. Lesnar vanishes in September and doesn't return until around the Royal Rumble. Then you can build to the title match at WrestleMania 31 and have someone else take the belt off Lesnar.

In that time without the belt, guys like Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins and Bray Wyatt can carry the main event scene, and the WWE can focus on its stories rather than on the gold.

It's a tricky concept, but one that could have a huge payoff if done properly.

What do you think, WWE fans? Are you excited by Brock Lesnar's return? Do you like the idea of Lesnar's vanishing from TV with the belt, or should he drop it shortly after he wins it? Let us know in the comments below, and don't forget to vote in our poll!
