At the halls of San Diego Comic Con, you can hear both Trekkies and sentient apes going wild over this latest comic book announcement. IDW Publishing and BOOM! Studios have partnered together for an epic crossover event, Star Trek/Planet of the Apes

Working together for the first time, IDW and BOOM! have partnered together to pit the original U.S.S. Enterprise Crew against the cast of the original Planet of the Apes flick. Scribes Scott and David Tipton, who already know a thing or two about crossovers (Star trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation 2), will bring both franchises into the narrative. British artist Rachel Scott will be providing the interior illustrations and cover work.

In the story, the Klingons are secretly backing a renegade gorilla. general In the battle for control of Ape City, Captain Kirk finds himself in the uncomfortable position. With Taylor and Nova running loose in the alternate future, the space captain finds himself in an uneasy alliance with Dr. Zaius' orangutans.

IDW editor Sarah Gaydos explains why anyone who has Planet of the Apes lunchbox should pick up this issue, "What an epic pairing! I'm so excited to see Taylor, Kirk...and those damned dirty apes...in our upcoming comic. We're eager to team up these exciting creative forces to bring this to life."

Will Spock put his fingers on Dr. Zaius' face and mind-meld with him? Taylor, the space astronaut, probably hasn't seen any of Kirk's technological advancements since he went missing. There are many directions this crossover event could take.

Star Trek/Planet of the Apes: The Prime Directive is expected to hit stores on sometime in 2014. Readers, are you excited to see these two franchises meet?
