Despite his visa problems earlier this week, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe made his debut appearance at Comic-Con 2014 in San Diego to promote his upcoming film Horns.

Radcliffe had been in Toronto to celebrate his 25th birthday and to attend the premiere of his upcoming rom com What If, with co-star Zoe Kazan. He was in the process of upgrading his visa and needed a stamp from the U.S. Embassy to enter to country, but their computer was down.

He got the all clear just in the nick of time and appeared on Comic-Con's Horns panel with director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) and scribe Joe Hill, who is also the son of horror writer legend Stephen King.

In Horns, Radcliffe plays Ig, a troubled young man accused of murdering his girlfriend. As he struggles to solve the whodunit, he sprouts horns on his head which give him supernatural abilities that will eventually help him solve the mystery. He said of his character, "He's somebody who's going through an incredibly torrid time in his life. He's a true antihero."

Radcliffe hopes to break out of the Potter mold by taking more challenging roles, of which Ig is one. He said, "If you take those opportunities when they're given to you and try to capitalize on them, then hopefully word gets out that you're not content to rest on your laurels. Towards the end of Potter, I did start to get worried [when] journalists started asking, 'Do you think your best years are behind you?' - at 20. That does get in your head a bit."

After the Comic-Con panel, Radcliffe wandered the convention center as a fan - he dressed as Spider-Man and went incognito!
