Chuck Berry was named the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Music Master, and will be honored at the Cleveland Institution in October.

Berry will be the 17th inductee into the American Music Masters series, and the one week to ten-day event includes retrospectives, panels, concerts, and a major gala to celebrate Berry's life and his music. Past inductees include Janis Joplin, Muddy Waters, and Buddy Holly.

Berry was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. Berry, 85, a pioneer of rock and roll and blues music, is best known for his hits including "Johnny B. Goode," "Maybellene," and "Rock and Roll Music."

The American Music Masters series honors the "lives and careers of artists who changed the shape and sound of American culture." The 2012 event kicks off October 22 and will close October 27 with an all-star tribute concert, in which Berry will take the stage.

The announcement of Berry's nomination was revealed Monday night and in a statement released on Tuesday Berry said he is "looking forward to reelin' and rockin' in Cleveland."
