At San Diego Comic-Con, BOOM! Studios is launching the ongoing Escape From New York comic book series. Based on John Carpenter's sci-fi cult classic, writer Christopher Sebela (DEAD LETTERS), along with artists Riley Rossmo (Green Wake) and Tim Bradstreet (Hellblazer), bring the anti-hero, Snake Plissken, back from the dead.

In you remember the sci-fi/action flick, the island of Manhattan has been turned into a maximum security prison. After Air Force One crashes into the prison site, the government forces the fallen war solider to go in there and rescue the President of the United States. The one-eyed Snake Plissken (played by Kurt Russell) has to go through street gangs, the Duke of New York (Isaac Hayes), and a wrestling match before the clock runs out.

BOOM! is also in charge of the Big Trouble In Little China series (based on another Carpenter film starring Kurt Russell). Because the Halloween director himself is involved in that project, we can safely assume he will also have some input on his most memorable character.

Though there is no official artist involved with Sebela yet, Rossmo and Bradstreet have captured the bleakness and grittiness of the '80s film in their fantastic covers.

During Comic Con, Boom! also announced their involvement with IDW Publishing on the Star Trek/Planet of the Apes crossover event.

Escape From New York is expected to hit stores in December. Readers are you excited to see Snake Plissken return?
