While we're all waiting for more spoilers and plot details for J.J. Abrams 2015 blockbuster Star Wars: Episode VII, that movie's sequel, Star Wars: Episode VIII, received some headline coverage this week. Director Rian Johnson, while appearing on the 500th Filmspotting podcast, talked a lot about the forthcoming film, but did he reveal any hints, spoilers, casting details or anything like that?

"I'm really excited about all the things I can't tell you," the Looper filmmaker told the podcast. So, in other words, Johnson really didn't reveal too much, though he teased us a lot!

He did talk about landing the job as director and how he, as a Star Wars fan, is truly excited for the project.

"The thought of it made me so completely joyfully happy," he explained. "I wanted to play in this world, of literally the first movie my dad put me in the car to see."

Considering Star Wars is coming back and therefore allowing a new generation to fall in love with the universe, Rian had some advice for newcomers in regards to familiarizing themselves in the series.

"I would do (Episodes) 4-6 then 1-3," he advised. "Storytelling-wise, 4-6 were constructed without the knowledge of the past."

Perhaps playing it a bit safe considering he's working for Lucasfilm now, Johnson admitted that he doesn't write off the prequels like most other fans.

"There was something really beautiful about the prequels," he said.
