When Dancing With the Stars returns this fall it is going to be one dancer short as Maksim Chmerkovskiy has just announced that he will not be coming back to the dancing competition, according to E! News.

During an appearance on The View on July 29, Maks revealed, "I'm done dancing," to which was followed by gasps from the crowd. He also stated that there was no ill will between him and the show, as he said, "I feel like it's time," adding, "I loved the experience."

Chmerkovskiy has previously left the series, taking a hiatus during seasons 16 and 17, before returning for the shows 18th season. He says that when he returned to the show from his break that it felt like something had changed.

"When I came back to the show, it was not the same... I was different, probably," he explains. "When I came back, I saw this amazing talent, Val [Chmerkovskiy, his brother] included... I looked at it and thought they can do much more and better, I was taking up a huge spot."

However, despite him thinking that he was not as talented as some of the dancers on the show, he actually took home the mirror ball trophy and the win last season with his partner Meryl Davis.

The dancing pro did make a guest judge appearance during this season 17 absence, and executive producer Rob Wade is hoping he could do more of these spots in the future.

"i'm absolutely hoping Maks comes back to the show," Wade said to E! News earlier this month. "I don't know whether it's going to be as a dancer. I think there's a number of different things we can talk to him about and the way he'd be involved in the show. Maks will always be part of Dancing With the Stars in some way,"

The new season will premiere without Maks on Monday, September 15 on ABC.
