5 Ways Marvel Comics' 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Compares To James Gunn's 'Guardians of the Galaxy!' [Photos & Videos]

With Guardians of the Galaxy now in theaters, now is the perfect opportunity to see how the sci-fi blockbuster flick compares to the original comics. In our spoiler-free review, let' see how Marvel Comics's superhero team compares to James Gunn's cinematic version.

Created by Dan Abnett and Andy Landing, the original line-up of the 1969 space ragtag team consisted of Star-Lord, Adam Warlock, Quasar, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Drax, and Gamora. The team was more laugh-out comedy and Rocket was supped to be the "Wolverine" of the group. But then, a bit more space opera and a bit more seriousness was added in the recent comics by writer Brian Michael Bendis.

1) The Dialogue

What the movie does well is capture the banter of Bendis' witty dialogue. When all four characters are in the same panel, everyone has to same something. When all four actors show up in the same shot, the flick suddenly gets really loud.

2) Rocket Raccoon

The origin story is kept the same. The furry alien creature doesn't know where he comes from and if there are any more like him. Though the Guardians rarely visit earth, the extraterrestrial doesn't even know what a "raccoon" looks like.

3) Star-Lord

In the comics, especially in artist Sarah Pichelli's illustrations, Peter Quill has longer hair and has the perfect jaw. which never gets scarred during a fight. Chris Pratt plays Star-Lord like a action hero as he bulked up for the role.

4) Teamwork

The theme about the Guardians comics is that this unlikely group knows how to work together. When the odds are stacked against them, somehow this team can make things work, especially if their plan is made up on the spot.

5) Action

What I think is interesting is how the entire movie is kept in outer-space. This isn't like in Thor, where Chris Hemsworth leaves his home world and visits Earth. The eyes are treated with amazing special effects of outer-space and creatures with mind-blowing powers, like Groot.
