Since Ivan Reitman exited the project, Sony has been searching for the next filmmaker to helm the stalled Ghostbusters sequel. Now Bridesmaids director Paul Feig has been approached to take on Ghostbusters 3, which may include an all-female team.

The third installment of the Ghostbuster franchise has faced many obstacles. Harold Ramis, who co-wrote the original with Dan Aykroyd, passed day. His untimely death caused the script by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg to be revised. Though Bill Murray returned as Peter Vankman for the Ghostbusters videogame, the Groundhog Day actor has not committed to the latest sequel.

The Hollywood Reporter claims The Heat director is in talks to reboot Ghostbusters franchise.Though no contracts has been officially signed, the Freaks & Geeks producer has been named as the studio's first choice. As discussions continue, THR's sources reveal ideas have been popping up about the next storyline.

Rumors have circulated that the plot might revolve around an all-new female ghost-hunting team. As reported here, IDW Publishing continued the franchise as a comic book series. In the mythology, fan-favorite secretary Janine Melnitz has become an honorary member of her own team. It's not a stretch at all to see female ghostbusters, especially with Feig's comedic strengths.

This new direction would definitely help in case some of the original cast members decide not to come back. Has anyone else realized they're a little old to be carrying proton packs and chasing ghost?
