Ricky Gervais is reviving his role of David Brent on The Office for a feature film next year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The famed comedian, who is responsible for the entire The Office craze (both in the US and UK) alongside comic/writing partner Stephen Merchant, will star as Brent in the film, set to go into production next year in England. It will be backed by BBC Films.

Titled Life on the Road, the feature will show Brent years after The Office finale back 2003. A press release from the BBC tells us, "We find out what Brent is doing now and what's happened in the last 15 years since his redundancy from his beloved Wernham Hogg," adding, "He's a sales rep now, selling cleaning products up and down the country, but has never really given up on his dream of being a rock star."

Narrowing the story down further, the BBC release states that the film will feature Brent funding his own music tour, which will be captured in the same mockumentary-style that the UK and US The Office series' were both shot in. "He thinks it'll be like [Martin] Scoresese filming The Rolling Stones, but it turns out to be a 'where are they now' documentary. He has to take a few weeks off work and cash in a couple of pensions, because the session musicians in the band are costing him more than he's getting in ticket sales. Tragic."

While Gervais has grown to become more famous in the US as an actor in film and shows other than The Office, he remains a household name in the UK for his portrayal of David Brent.

Though his home is undoubtedly littered with BAFTAs, Emmys and Golden Globes, Ricky Gervais is up for yet another Emmy this year, in the category of Lead Actor, for his series Derek.
