Becky Hammon is proving that anything a man can do she may can do it better! The WNBA star is making history and becoming the first female assistant coach in the NBA.

Hammon, a 16-year WNBA pro will be joining the San Antonio Spurs for the upcoming 2014-15 basketball season.

The 37-year-old WNBA guard, is no stranger to San Antonio, she has played with the San Antonio Stars since 2007, and will retire at the end of the 2014 season but stay in the area, to hope on board with the brother team, the Spurs for a new change in her career.

"I very much look forward to the addition of Becky Hammon to our staff," the Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said in a statement. "Having observed her working with our team this past season, I'm confident her basketball IQ, work ethic and interpersonal skills will be a great benefit to the Spurs."

Hammon started her basketball career as a guard for the New York Liberty where she played from 1999 to 2006.

Hammon made headlines, and felt that Team USA would ignore her in the future, when she became a foreign citizen to  Russian, to compete on their national squad in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

The South Dakota native revealed to her coach, Dan Hughes, her plans for the future, meeting up with Popovich, and the Spurs general manager R.C. Buford about coaching.

The NY Daily News revealed that the Spurs new assistant coach joined the team during their trianing camp at the Air Force Academy at preseason.

"(I was) just kind of there, a fly on the wall soaking up how they run things," Hammon said.

Hammon may be the first female to be officially hired on staff for an NBA team, but Lisa Boyer joined the Cleveland Cavalier's staff as a volunteer back in 2001-02.
