Kyle MacLachlan Reportedly Joins Marvel's Agents of SHIELD as 'The Doctor'

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be back for Season 2 this fall, and it seems like The Doctor will be paying a visit shortly after the ABC series returns.

io9 reports Kyle MacLachlan will appear in Episode 2 of the second season as a character known as "The Doctor." "A source tells io9 that the premiere will see the return of Adrian Pasdar's Glenn Talbot, and that the second episode will guest star Kyle MacLachlan as 'The Doctor.'"

It's unclear at this point if this doctor is just a generic physician or if the character is based on an established Marvel Comics character that could lead to a recurring role for MacLachlan.

The "Matt's Inside Line" column at TVLine has confirmed Pasdar's return.

In related news, the "Mega Buzz" column at TV Guide provides some of the answer and reveals Hydra will also play a role in Season 2:

Don't worry, Ward will still play a big role in Season 2 - as will Hydra. 'He spent his whole life being a follower and being told what to do,' executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen tells me. 'Now he's in our custody and alone, so what does that mean for him? Season 2 is Ward continuing to discover what he wants.'"

Deadline also reports British actor Simon Kassianides has joined the cast of Season 2 in a recurring role as "Bakshi," whom the site describes as a "confident right hand man who's not afraid to do the dirty work." Deadline does not say if he works for the good guys or the bad guys.
