io9 started some buzz earlier this week when the site revealed Adrian Pasdar would return as Glenn Talbot in the Season 2 premiere of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and also teased Kyle MacLachlan would appear in Episode 2. Now, we know which character he will play, and it's a crucial one.

TVLine reports MacLachlan will recur in Season 2 as none other than Skye's (Chloe Bennet) father! Skye's lineage has been a mystery since the show's beginning. The character, and the fans, wondered about her parents' identities, how she wound up at an orphanage and why S.H.I.E.L.D. classifies her as an 0-8-4, a being with powers. The Season 1 finale ended when Raina walked up to a shrouded figure and handed him a photo of Skye, saying, "I found your daughter."

TVLine also first reported exclusively that former NYPD Blue star Henry Simmons will have a recurring role in the second season as Alphonso "Mac" Mackenzie, a mechanic in his early 30s.

The cast of recurring characters and guest stars now includes MacLachlan, Simmons, Reed Diamond as villain Daniel Whitehall, Nick Blood as Lance Hunter, Simon Kassianides as Bakshi and Lucy Lawless as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Isabelle Hartly.

Are you surprised to learn MacLachlan will play Skye's father? How do you think this will affect the show? Will he be on her side, or will he be working for the enemy? Could HYDRA or Centipeded be controlling him or holding him prisoner, as evidenced by the final scene in Season 1? Let us know your guesses in the comments below.
