Wilco, the alternative rock band from Chicago who made it big after the release of their fourth studio album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, made an appearance on Wednesday night's episode of NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The band tore into a rendition of the single "Art of Almost" off of their new album The Whole Love (featuring an amazing drum finale by drummer Glenn Kotche) and then treated fans to an exclusive web performance of a reworked version of "Laminated Cat."

On their way to this weekend's Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island after playing three consecutive nights in New York, Wilco made a pit stop on Jimmy Fallon, which airs weeknights at 12:35 a.m., ET. Sporting a trendy brown fedora, lead vocalist Jeff Tweedy led the band into an awesome performance highlighted by a strong and completely synchronized instrumental climax. Guitarist Nels Cline stuck out as a star of the show, thrashing around like a kid who has just laid hands on a guitar but producing the sound of a true rock and roll veteran.

Although the performance of "Laminated Cat" (also known as "Not for the Season") was not shown on air, it's worth the time to surf the web to check it out. Wilco once again executes a successful set, emphasized with Tweedy's crooning vocals and Kotche's backing drum beats. This single, originally recorded by Tweety's side-band Loose Fur and an influence on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, is considered one of Wilco's secret gem tracks.

After headlining Friday's Newport Folk Festival, Wilco will continue their tour throughout the rest of summer and into early fall, ending at Delaware on October 24.
