Fox has released a new trailer for the upcoming Batman prequel series, Gotham. Actors Ben McKenzie (Southland) and Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy) find themselves cornered by some of the greatest and deadliest DC Comics super villains.

As reported here, we know the highly anticipated superhero/crime drama features a younger version of police commissioner Jim Gordon (McKenzie) and rogue detective, Harvey Bullock (Logue). In this TV adaptation, the commissioner starts out like a rookie in the streets of Gotham City. Though the two are loyal comrades in the comics, the pair seem to be bitter rivals, in the tradition of the good/bad cop genre.

Somehow, these cops have to work out their differences and pull together, especially when it comes down to the biggest baddies from DC Comics' lineup. The enemy list keeps piling up as Oswald Copplepot/Penguin (Robin Taylor), mob boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith), and a young Catwoman/Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) show up at the crime scene.

If you notice in the video, Cory Michael Smith shows up as Edward Nygma. In the DC Universe, the criminal mastermind uses his vast intellect to defeat the Dark Knight. There might be a mole in the police department because the Riddler is dressed in one of their uniforms.

The most surprising part of the trailer is the appearance of the Joker. The daedliest Batman villain is hinted at visually as Bullock lifts the white sheet over the camera. We hear the noise of a toy slightly in the background.

Gotham will premiere September 22 on Fox at 8pm. Readers, are you excited to see The Joker on the upcoming Batman TV series?
