Seemingly out of nowhere, Starz's new TV series Outlander - based on the book by Diana Gabaldon - has broken ratings records with its premiere episode. Today's multi-platform viewing choices have garnered about 3.7 million viewers (and counting) for the brand new series. These numbers come from network ratings from actually watching Starz as well as Starz On Demand, Starz.com, YouTube, and Xfinity.

The series premiere is available to watch on YouTube, and some viewers have been going back and re-watching the episode according to these numbers. Will you be one of them?

Entertainment Weekly reports:

Starz put the first episode ("Sassenach") of its adaptation online and On Demand this week. So far, the hour has been viewed 897,372 times by more than 600,000 unique viewers. (So, yes, some fans are apparently watching more than once.) Those numbers include viewing via Starz On Demand, Starz.com, YouTube, and Xfinity ... Outlander follows a WWII combat nurse (Caitriona Balfe) who is is mysteriously transported back to 1743 Scotland, where she is kidnapped by a group of Highlanders.
