Manchester City are currently preparing to defend their Premier League crown. The 2014/15 EPL season looks like it'll be a lot tougher than the last campaign, but the champions have moved forward, with boss Manuel Pellegrini making major changes to his title-winning squad. After minor additions the club landed world class center back Eliaquim Mangala, and now they've agreed new five-year contracts with key players Vincent Kompany and David Silva. However, could these new contracts be precedent to a major sale, as Manchester United did with Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool did with Luis Suarez?

Now City do not need the money, being one of the richest clubs in the world. With Financial Fair Play rules in place, they are having to be careful. For example, they've already received squad restrictions for the UEFA Champions League, after their erratic spending. When Ronaldo and Suarez wanted to leave, everybody knew it, yet these stars signed a new deal, knowing their old club would receive a hefty fee. Could both of City's deals for Kompany and Silva be with that in mind?

Of course one of the pair could be sold to satisfy their FFP restrictions, or perhaps one of the players has suggested he wants to leave in the near future, so City are merely protecting their assets. The possibilities are endless, but for now the City fans will have no choice but to smile, knowing they have a defensive partnership to be reckoned with in Kompany and Mangala, a magician in Silva and a world class striker in Sergio Aguero. After all, this could be the start of City becoming one of Europe's best, on top of the best the EPL has to offer.

Football fans always look deeper in to every transaction, but then again they've all been stung and lied to before, so who can blame them? If rumours hadn't persisted regarding the pair's future, then there would be smiles. For now, defending their title looks likely.
