The Jim Henson Company, an established leader in family entertainment for over 50 years, now joins the award-winning imprint of BOOM! Studios, Archaia, on a new venture. Creators S.M. Vidaurri (Iron: Or, The War After), Kyla Vanderklugt (Spera), Matthew Dow Smith (Doctor Who), and Jeff Stokely (Six-Gun Gorilla) have been brought together for a new limited series, Jim Henson's The Storyteller: Witches.
Back in the late '80s, The Storyteller would focus on retelling various European folk tales through a combination of live actors and puppets. The episode would be begin with an old storyteller (played by John Hurt) sitting by a fireplace. The narrator told each tale to the audience and to his talking dog. Reacting as the voice of the viewers, the dog was a realistic looking puppet performed and voiced by Brian Henson.
In the spirit of Henson's inventive imagination, this brand new limited series dives into the mythology of witches and witchcraft throughout the ages. In an anthology-like format, each standalone tale will feature an incredible blend of artistic styles and storytelling techniques, taking full advantage of the comic book medium.
BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon comment on Henson's unbridled creative mind, "We've gathered some of the most exciting up-and-coming creators in the industry, all of whom are huge Henson fans, and set them loose to explore classic tales from all over the world in a way only they could. The result is stunning, and we're so excited to share it with fans."
In the first installment, a young princess must travel deep into the mysterious forest to find her missing brother. The princess must rely solely on her wits or else her family is cursed forever.
The Storyteller: Witches #1 (of 4) arrives in stores on September 17. Readers, are you excited for another Jim Henson tale?
