With the premiere quickly approaching, Fox has released a special 4-part preview of their upcoming series, Gotham. Ben McKenzie, Jada Pinkett Smith, comics creator Geoff Johns, and more talk about the new origins twist on the established DC Comics characters in the popular Batman franchise.

Rookie detective Jim Gordon (McKenzie) has just been assigned to the Wayne murder case. As Gordon sinks deep into Gotham's seedy underbelly, we will see how the famous Dark Knight villains, such as Penguin, Catwoman, and the Riddler, got their start.

In the first installment, the Matrix action star dishes how her original character fits in with the rest of the super villains. Smith states, "I love origin stories! Fish Mooney is an up-and-comer in the criminal world. She has in mind to take over Gotham."

In the second preview, we are introduced to Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Gordan's fiancé. Barbara is a member of Gotham's wealthy high society, which causes friction between the loving couple. Their relationship will be tested as they keep secrets from each other.

In the third part, we visually see how the world of Gotham City is created though CGI. Notice how the special effects team builds layers to the wide shots, making sure the cityscape doesn't appear similar to New York's. In Catwoman's opening scene, notice how the buildings and gargoyles are added to build atmosphere.

In the final installment, we are presented with the heroes and villains of the TV show. From what we know so far, Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face, and Dr. Hugo Strange, will be showing up on the Batman prequel as well.

Gotham will premiere on Fox Setember 22 at 8pm. Readers, are you excited to see how Batman's rogue gallery got their start?
