'The Leftovers' Episode 9 Recap, 'The Garveys At Their Best' PHOTOS [SPOILERS] The Penultimate Season 1 Episode - A Crazy Flashback

The penultimate episode of The Leftovers's first season on HBO is entitled "The Garveys at Their Best." We assume we'll have interacting and contrasting storylines from each Garvey, including Tom's insane adventure, but how will last week's surprising death factor into an episode that is surely going to be monumental. After this, we only have one more episode, so let's find out what seeds are planted this week. [SPOILERS to follow]

The opening scene shows Kevin on a run, sneaking a cigarette, and spotting that deer - possibly from the first episode. He gets home, but it isn't his father's house that we're used to. Laurie is there, talking on the phone ... this is a flashback episode you guys!

In other words, the repercussions of Patti's death won't be felt until the season finale.

We wanted answers all this time throughout the season, and we're getting a ton of them. A lot of details match up with what we've seen so far and it is so wild. Everyone in the past is so much different than how we know him or her now. We see Patti, Gladys, Mary and others that have changed so drastically. For instance, Nora still has her family. Kevin ends up killing the deer, so we know that it isn't the same on from the first episode. He sleeps with the woman that happened to hit the deer with her car.

As the episode progresses, though, we understand that this has to be the day of the disappearances. The episode ends accordingly, but with a twist we couldn't have seen coming: Laurie was pregnant and the baby disappeared in the "rapture," right out of her womb. Also, Nora's family disappears right after she yells at them. The woman Kevin's sleeping with disappears underneath him.

We learned so much in this episode and get to see our main characters experience this crazy event. We understand so much now, and we understand that the finale will be insane.

This has to be the episode that got the series renewed for a second season. So much comes together and yet there is so much to wonder about. What did you think about the penultimate episode of The Leftovers?
