Is this the end of the twerk as we know it? Miley Cyrus is reportedly over the dance trend and is ready to get back to focusing on her music. During the Video Music Awards the songstress spoke to MTV's Sway Calloway where she said she was passing the twerking torch over to Nicki Minaj.

"With that ass.... I ain't got that ass," the singer revealed of the "Anaconda" singer, who opened the VMA's last night. "I can bring that body, I can bring that wrecking ball, but I can't bring that ass. Not that Anaconda."

And it seems appropriate to pass the torch over to Minaj, whose music video for "Anaconda" just beat the 24-hour Vevo view record held by Miley's video "Wrecking Ball."

Miley graced the red carpet for the Video Music Awards dressed in a black leather bandeau that she paired with black leather pants, a more sophisticated look from other outfits the singer has worn recently to award shows.

According to MTV, she also talked to hosts of the pre-show, Lucy Hale and Sway about her new music endeavor. She has partnered up with The Flaming Lips to record some new tunes.

"I've retired [from twerking], yeah," the singer said. "I'm making some music right now with The Flaming Lips. It's different. It's a little psychedelic."

It seems that the singer is yet again reinventing herself as she is headed for a different musical vibe.

"It's not about twerking- it's about music," she said. "I live to be in the studio, that's my favorite part, is bunkering down, working on a record."

As for when we can expect to hear new music from the songstress, she reveals she hasn't have a set timeline.

"This record might take me five years. I don't know. I'm just going to work on it until I'm done."
