'Shutter Island' TV Series, HBO - Martin Scorsese's Movie Lands Pilot 'Ashecliffe' With Dennis Lehane Scripting

HBO and Martin Scorsese are reportedly working on a Shutter Island TV series adaptation of the hit 2010 psychological thriller. Entitled Ashecliffe, the series will continue the working relationship between the director and the network, which also includes an upcoming series about the 1970s music world and Boardwalk Empire. Writer Dennis Lehane, who wrote the novel that Scorsese adapted into a film with Leonardo DiCaprio, is penning the pilot's script.

If you remember Shutter Island, it was one of the most successful films of Scorsese's career, thus making this a pretty smart move for many reasons. Will we see as many twists and turns as the film in this series? Only time will tell.

Ashecliffe is the name of the isolated mental hospital where the movie took place, and the series begins before the events of the film. The focus is the past of hospital, and the secrets and misdeeds perpetrated by its founders who erected the hospital in the early 20th Century and developed the methods of treatment use for the mentally ill. Scorsese directed the pilot for Boardwalk Empire and he is posting the pilot for the untitled 70s rock n roll project he is doing with Mick Jagger, Victoria Pearman, Rick Yorn, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, and Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter. Winter wrote it and he also scripted Scorsese and DiCaprio's Oscar nominated last film, The Wolf Of Wall Street.
