'Modern Family' Star Sarah Hyland & Boyfriend Break Up- 'Geek Charming' Costars Call It Quits On 5-Year Relationship

Sarah Hyland and her boyfriend Matt Prokop have decided to call it quits. The couple, who met while auditioning for High School Musical 3: Senior Year in 2008, later began dating while filming for 2011's Geek Charming, a Disney Channel Original Movie. The two have decided to end their five-year relationship and move on amicably, as friends.

"Sarah's doing fine. It didn't work out," an insider on the relationship explained to Us Weekly. "She's young. They decided they were better off as friends."

The breakup was also confirmed by E! News who said that the star "is having a good time right now," before reiterating that the split was indeed mutual. "They though they would be better off as friends. It was amicable."

Hyland talked about her relationship with Matt last year to E! claiming that the two were "practically married," as they lived together and shared a dog with each other.

However, the 23-year-old Modern Family actress had little to be upset about at the Emmy awards last night, as her ABC comedy series won in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. This win, the fifth one for the show to be precise, tied them with Fraiser for the most Emmy wins in the category.
