With the first season FX'The Strain getting scarier with its growing vampire invasion, the network released a new making-of featurette, 'A Novel Approach.' The best-selling books were adapted by Dark Horse Comics, and creators Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan discuss bringing a live-action version of their characters through actor Richard Sammel and actress Ruta Gedmintas.

In our recent recaps, the exterminator Vasiliy Fett (Kevin Durand) and Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) have been on separate tracks investigating same vampire plague. In our preview of Creatures of the Night, their first meeting takes place with Vasiliy pointing a gun at the back of Eph's head. This is just one of the small but pivotal changes made from the Dark Horse comic.

Known for such visionary films such as Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone, Del Toro explains his creative process: "Writing the stories for the series has proven to be equally rewarding. These are characters I know better than any other characters I've ever worked with."

There have been new characters introduced into the TV show, which Sammel, who plays the book's main antagonist Thomas Echorist, points out: "Dutch [Velders] does not exist in the books."

Gedmintas explains who Dutch is: "You think she's one of the bad guys, but actually she's having fun making a bit of money. She doesn't realize what she's doing."

For those who have read the comic, we were definitely excited to see the sudden and early arrival of the vampire hunters, who also happen to be vampires, in the shocking final moments of 'For Services Rendered.'
