Jason Latour, Robbi Rodriguez Reboot Spider-Woman In 'Edge Of Spider-Verse' #2! Gwen Stacy Is New Marvel Hero!

In the prelude event to Spider-Verse, Marvel Comics presents a new amazing super heroine in the Spider-Man mythology in the Edge of Spider-Verse #2. Writer Jason Latour and artist Robbi Rodriguez introduce newcomers and longtime fans to Gwen Stacy who dons the mask of Spider-Woman.

As mentioned here, Latour and Rodriguez revealed the new redesign of Spider-Woman. In this re-imagination of the origin story, it's not Peter Parker who gets accidentally bitten by the radioactive spider. This new what-if storyline examines Gwen Stacey, the first love of Peter's life, putting on the Spidey costume and fights crime in the streets of New York.

In the story, Gwen is  a regular teen by day, rehearsing with her own punk band, The Mary Janes. But when nighttime comes, the blonde teenager is a wanted fugitive by the police. Captain George Stacy leads a merciless task force for the capture of the masked vigilante. Leading a double-life, Gwen pretends to be the girl-next-door in front of her father, while living the nightlife as a superhero.

In an interview with Marvel, Latour discusses the gender switch and how it relates to the coming-of-age tale, "This story sees Gwen at a real crossroads of her life. Spider-Woman is wanted for a crime she didn't commit." The Spider-Verse scribe continues, "So where as her life in costume before was a lot of adventuring and fun, she's now being forced to decide what it means to her."

Rodriguez has done something interesting with the character design. Notice how Gwen's costume looks like she has a hoodie on her head. It's a creative way of wearing a mask but not.
