Joan Rivers has been in critical condition since earlier this week after suffering from cardiac arrest after undergoing a routine Endoscopy at and Upper East Side health clinic. The comedienne was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital were she has been ever since. The star is currently on life support, which new reports are claiming that she is relying on these machines to keep her alive.

According to TMZ, the decision to turn off the machines will come down to Joan's family including her daughter Melissa Rivers. Should they ultimately make the decision to pull the plug on the machines, they are hopefully that the 81-year-old Fashion Police host will fight through it.

After the comedienne stopped breathing during her surgery, Melissa flew from Los Angeles to New York to be by her ailing mother's side. When he arrived she found her mother in an induced coma and being kept alive by life support machines.

She released a statement earlier this week saying, "My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world. Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery."

There is still no word on how long Joan spotted breathing for and what the possible affect of that could have been on the star's health.

According to the NY Daily News, a close friend of Joan's spoke out about her condition saying, she "would never want to be a burden on anyone. If she can't recover and live a full and active life, she would rather be gone."

"The thought of her sitting at home unable to look after herself or suffering brain damage is heartbreaking," the source continued.

Mstars will keep you update on Joan's condition as more information becomes available.

We continue to send out thoughts and prayers to Joan and her family.
