'The Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Spoilers- Will Elena Move On From Damon? Will Stefan & Caroline Hook Up? Details About New Season

The Vampire Diaries is finally about to make its way back to our TV screens, thank gosh!!! We have only been waiting to find out what happened to all our Mystic Falls friends since the series left us with that huge cliffhanger at the end of season five. Elena, Bonnie, Stefan, Damon, Caroline and the rest of the gang are back and are dealing with the aftermath of the collapse of the other side.

According to TVLine, the new season will take place four months after the events in the finale as all of our favorite characters are left to pick up the pieces of their lives after the "deaths" of Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham).

While Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) are still reeling with the aftermath, they have attempted to pick up their lives. Elena is "excelling in her pre-med program," while Stefan "doesn't have the emotional energy for a relationship," so fans looking for a Caroline/Stefan love affair will just have to keep waiting a little longer.

As for Caroline (Candice Accola), she will have a new love interest as Elena is trying to set her up with one of her pre-med friends Liam (Maro James).

While Stefan isn't ready for a relationship, it looks like returning cast member Alaric (Matthew Davis) isn't wasting any time after coming back from the other side to start up a new romance. When we see him he will be shacking up with Elena's new mentor Jo.

As for Bonnie and Damon, they might be gone but that doesn't mean that viewers won't be taking a trip to the other side to see how they are living. According to the site their location will be unveiled "slowly" as the first few episodes progress. And fans can expect a lot of that Bonnie and Damon witty banter that they have come to love as they will begin to "get on each other's nerves like an old married couple."

As for Matt (Zach Roering) and Tyler (Michael Trevino), the two will be trying to live normal lives as Matt won't have to watch his back every second, and Tyler will get a second chance at being a human instead of a hybrid. However, it might be easier for Matt as TVLine reports that "the rage is still inside" Tyler.

Also set to take center stage this season is the continued backstory of siblings Liv (Penelope Mitchell) and Luke (Chris Brochu) as viewers will discover the "dark past" and "destiny" that lead them to Whitmore College.

The new season will premiere on October 2 on the CW.
