With the premiere just a few weeks away, Fox's Gotham has released two new behind-the-scenes videos to build anticipation. Actress Jada Pinkett Smith and co-star Ben McKenzie participate in the video interviews, discussing how their roles relate to the DC Comics characters in the Batman prequel series.

As we mentioned here, Fish Mooney (Smith) does not exist in the DC Universe and was created specifically for the TV show. Though Mooney has no involvement in the comic books, she is integral to the origin stories of the Dark Knight villains. One of the henchmen in her crew is Oswald Copplepot, who will become Gotham City's mob boss known as the Penguin.

The Matrix Revolutions action star is excited for audiences to meet Fish, who she describes as a "bada$ villain, who's beautiful, intelligent, and just crazy."

We also reported that the Southland actor will be playing a different kind of cop, this time rookie detective Jim Gordon. In the comics, Gordon and Batman becomes allies, but he was never assigned to the Wayne murder case, like in the TV show. In Frank Miller's Year One, the two first meet as adults, not when Bruce Wayne was an young orphan.

McKenzie feels he is making something special as the show's themes present characters who will reach "the metaphorically breakpoint that plunges Gotham a downward spiral; ultimately manifest in people putting on costumes."

Gotham will premiere on Fox September 22. Readers, are you excited to see Jada Pinkett Smith and Ben McKenzie?
