Many fans were not pleased with The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which garnered an extremely mixed reaction from both fans and critics. But Sony is forging ahead with a cinematic universe in this franchise, with spinoffs for both Venom and The Sinister Six. But will Spider-Man himself, Andrew Garfield, be involved?

The actor promoted his new movie 99 Homes at the Toronto International Film Festival, where the Toronto Sun asked him about the Sinister Six movie. "I know more than I'm allowed to say right now," Garfield said. "I can say I'm really excited about Drew Goddard, who's going to be writing and directing The Sinister Six movie. And whether I'm involved in that or not is kind of immaterial."

One of the biggest concerns fans had when Sony announced this movie was how it would work without a hero in the story. Based on Garfield's comments here, it does not seem like Spider-Man will appear prominently in the movie, if at all. So it could be a challenge for Goddard to make this movie, which admittedly has an interesting premise, function properly.

Sinister Six hits theaters on Nov. 11, 2016, while The Amazing Spider-Man 3 does not arrive until 2018. Sony had originally planned the third installment for May 2016 and the fourth movie for May 2018, but they shifted their plans recently to put the spinoff movie first.

Do you think The Sinister Six will be a worthwhile endeavor? What are your thoughts on the state of this franchise? Let us know in the comments section.
