HBO Go is about to become a standalone service outside of an HBO cable subscription, which is exactly what fans of HBO series have wanted for years! Now Time Warner is ready to go head-to-head with Netflix in regards to online streaming - but do you think it will work?

"Now the broadband opportunity is getting bigger," Time Warner's Jeff Bewkes said today regarding why this idea hadn't gone into action sooner. "It's a good thing for optionality in the longer term. It's showing a very good demand for HBO. We have the rights. We can do it if we want to now. But we don't want to do anything that's not at a high level."

This news comes after reports coming earlier this year that Game of Thrones was the most pirated show on the Internet. Though HBO Go is convenient for subscribers, it isn't for those that don't have a subscription to the cable network ... or a password. With this new idea, one would just be able to join the standalone HBO Go service - whenever that happens.

Bewkes added: "Everybody in the media business is thinking about what is the most appropriate way to market your product. ... Is there some time in the future when that could happen? Absolutely. I don't know when that is ... over the next three to five years, the business will change dramatically."
