The fifth season of Boardwalk Empire has just begun airing on HBO, with actor Steve Buscemi returning one last time as the politician/mob boss Nucky Thompson. But there are still  burning questions left unanswered from the aftermath of season 4, as viewers wonder if Gretchen Mol's murderess Gillian Darmody will truly get her "happily ever after?"

Over the past seasons, Gillian has been driven to a state of utter madness as she questioned what ever happened to her son, Jimmy. The truth is, Nucky (Buscemi) killed her son in cold blood and buried the body where he could never be seen. Things got so bad, that Richard Harrow (Jack Huston) had to save Jimmy's child when he was trapped inside Gillian's brothel.

In the fourth season, Gillian fell in love with Roy Philips (Ron Livingston), who saved her from a drug overdose. Feeling like she could trust him, Gillian revealed how she killed a stranger and covered up the murder, so that she could have closure over Jimmy's death. It turns out Roy was really an undercover FBI agent and placed her in handcuffs after her confession.

In an interview with The Age Entertainment, Mol reveals how audiences will see her character this season, "When we first meet Gillian this season, there's almost a sense of relief. I think it's a relief for her to be taken out of that Boardwalk Empire world, and to be restrained, and to have to just let go."

After everything that Gillian has been through, does Mol think the murderess will find peace and have a happy ending? The starlet replies, "I've come to want her to win so much. But I just don't know if it's in the cards for her."

Boardwalk Empire continues on Sundays, 9pm on HBO. Readers, what do you think will happen to Gillain Darmody this final season?
