Rooney Mara, Dan DeHaan Cast In 'Ziggy' Period Musical Movie From Baz Luhrmann Protégé Diesel Schwarze

Two of the biggest talents in young Hollywood have just signed on for one of the most promising movie musicals of recent time. Rooney Mara of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Dane DeHaan of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have just been cast in Ziggy - a period musical from Diesel Schwarze, who happens to be the protégé of Baz Luhrmann! The music for the film comes from Grammy-nominated producer and songwriter Alex Da Kid.

Ziggy looks like quite the lovelorn tale, with DeHaan portraying a NYC transplant that falls in love with Mara's character, the fiancée of a powerful media mogul. Also, Dane plays a "hunchback escape artist," so that's pretty original if you ask us!

Besdies these two amazing young talents, audiences will get to know Schwarze, who already has an impressive background. Considering his relationship with Luhrmann - the filmmaker who has mastered the art of the movie musical - we're expecting a lot from the director.

"Ziggy is one of the most unique scripts I've ever read," producer Lynette Howell said this week, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Diesel has written an incredibly beautiful and ambitious story, and his background working under Baz Luhrmann combined with his prolific commercial work, lends itself to bringing this story to life in a visually inspired and exciting way. We are so fortunate to have Dane and Rooney on-board to develop the music with us and create something truly original, contemporary and special."
