The Strain is getting scarier with its impending vampire apocalypse and FX has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette about the show. Based on the best-selling series by Dark Horse Comics, actors Kevin Durand and David Bradley join visionary director Guillermo Del Toro to discuss "The Rat King."

In our recent recap, Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) lost Jim Kent (Sean Astin) and unexpectedly gained Vasiliy Fet (Durand). While on the way back home, Eph discovers his son in trouble against one of the bloodsuckers. Though his child is safe with the vampire hunter, Abraham (Bradley), there are still questions about his ex-wife's whereabouts.

Readers of the Dark Horse comic remember how Fet is drawn like a football quarterback in Mike Huddleston's artwork. The Lost actor exudes that same toughness and adds a bit more personality to his character's backstory. Viewers discovered Fet was a prestigious student at an acclaimed university, but he gave up his education to become a blue collar exterminator.

Del Toro's explains the character's motivations, "Fett is driven by the knowledge of the plagues, rats, and how they think, and where to catch them. He becomes very useful in tracking and destroying the vampire's nest."

Bradley's Setrkaian realizes Durand has "no emotional ties" with anyone, which explains why the exterminator was able to pull the trigger and shoot the infected Jim in the head.

Duran adds to his character arc, "He's on the hero's journey...This apocalypse allows him to step into a world where he can really shine. He's ready to save the world."
