Director David Fincher has a huge film coming out this fall in Gone Girl, but that doesn't mean his mind isn't on other projects that he is both hopeful about; Namely, The Girl Who Played with Fire, the sequel to his 2011 film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Do you think he can get Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara back to make the film?

Speaking with a Swedish news website, the filmmaker seems pretty optimistic about the project.

"I think because [Sony] already has spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script, so it will result in something," Fincher told aftonbladeFilm Divider translated the interview. "The script that we now have a huge potential, I can reveal as much as it is extremely different from the book."

Though he's hopeful, the film might take some more time due to the stars' schedules. Daniel Craig is one of the biggest names in the movie world and Rooney Mara has a number of projects coming up. This series needs both stars to prepare physically for the roles as well, so that needs to be taken into account.

Meanwhile, Fincher also recently opened up about another project that he's much less optimistic about: his 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea adaptation.

"Once we got past the list of people we could cast as the different characters in the film, once we got past one or two names which made them very comfortable, making a movie at that price, it became this bizarre endeavor to find which three names you could rub together to make platinum," he told Little White Lies this week.
