BREAKING NEWS: Assumed Suicide As Man Jumps From Roof of LA's Standard Hotel

A man jumped 12 floors from the Rooftop lounge of the Standard Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles today. LAPD has deemed the tragic incident a suicide, as there was no criminal investigation involved.

At around 3:49 p.m. a call was placed to the LAPD explaining that a man had jumped from the roof, according to The Hollywood Reporter.


The Hotel is one of two Standard locations in Los Angels that caters to locals and visitors alike. Known for its socialite atmosphere, trendy decor, and rooftop lounge equipped for any partygoer this is starling news for the many that have stayed or gathered at the downtown hotel.

The man -who has yet to be identified- landed on the sidewalk of the 500 block of South Flower Street. Sixth Street was then shut down between Hope and Flower as investigators catered to the scene.

"Because there's no criminal investigation involved it has been deemed a suicide," a spokesperson from the LAPD said. "It's now in the hands of the Coroner's Office."

The Andre Balazs owned hotel, has yet to respond to the tragic matter that happened this afternoon.

 The Standard Hotel in downtown Los Angeles is by countless guests by their glamour's rooftop lounge that comprises a pool, fully stocked bars and dramatic views of the city and mountains.

Owner Andre Balazs has created the rooftop to be a place of fun and relaxation for its guest. Therefore, why someone would commit such an act are questions that investigators are working on answering.

The hotel has offered minor details into todays events, however, they say that the rooftop is closed for the time being.
