Just when you thought Leonardo DiCaprio couldn't get more powerful in the world of Hollywood, the famous actor is putting his fame to good use as he was recently appointed U.N. Messenger of Peace.

The UN Secretary general Ban Ki Moon said that the actor's world-wide recognition was perfect for the global challenge posed by climate change.

The actors first duty as Messenger of Peace is to speak at the U.N. Climate Summit to address the startling issues of climate change on Sept. 23 in New York, the international organization announced Tuesday.

"It's an honor to accept the role of U.N. Messenger of Peace on Climate Change and to support the Secretary General in his efforts to address one of the most important issues we face as a global community," expressed DiCaprio in a statement he made. "I feel a moral obligation to speak out at this key moment in human history - it is a moment for action. How we respond to the climate crisis in the coming years will likely determine the fate of humanity and our planet."

That's some heavy stuff for DiCaprio to be taking on. However, we couldn't think of anyone else perfect for the position.

The actor has been associated closely with climate control issues, as he has pledged donations to marine conservation of $3 million and a further pledge of $7 million.

His blockbuster paychecks are being put to good use, don't you think?

Going political comes with great events and galas in your name. The Clinton Foundation will honor the actor for his dedication to the global change that needs to occur. The gala will take place on Sept. 21, where Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton will possibly be in attendance.
