It looks like Matthew McConaughey is officially out of Magic Mike 2. Earlier reports suggested as much, but now director Greg Jacobs has confirmed the unfortunate news about Magic Mike XXL, but also revealed some pretty big plot details! Plus Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, and Joe Manganiello are set to return with Steven Soderbergh filming and editing the sequel!

While speaking with The Playlist the director (a long-time associate of Soderbergh) revealed that Tatum, Bomer and Manganello would be returning, but added that new stars would be added to the sequel's cast.

So far we know that the film will be more like a road trip, but what else can Jacobs tell us?

"It's road trip movie and put it this way, it's different enough that once you see it you'll understand why we made a sequel," he explained. "No one will be accusing us of making the same movie twice."

Jacobs, an executive producer and first AD for Showtime's The Knick, Steven Soderbergh's current project, joked about moving into the director's seat for Magic Mike XXL.

"I wish I could get a good DP. I think it's going to be really fun," he said. "I mean, I'm on set every day when we're shooting [Steven's projects] as it is. We're constantly suggesting stuff to each other. It's really intimate and collaborative and it always has been. So I think it'll be a lot of fun. We already shot some second unit stuff, which was a total blast. I think it's going to be a good time."
