Comedian Robin Williams was always a "great friend" to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Or, at least, that's what their website says. Regardless, in order to honor the late genius the organization has agreed to donate $9,000 to a number of charities he so dearly cared for.

Calling him "generous," the HFPA's site notes, "Like the entertainment industry and the world at large, the members of the HFPA felt a great loss learning of his untimely death."

"It was this feeling of kinship that led President Theo Kingma to contact Robin Williams' family on behalf of the HFPA membership."

Kingma reportedly told the comedian's family, "We were deeply affected and want to contribute to his memory by donating to his favorite charities."

Throughout his days, the late comedian was a wholehearted sponsor of three specific charities: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and Muhammad Ali Parkinson Foundation (MAPC).

St. Jude's specializes in the "research and treatment of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases;" the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation supports research on spinal cord injuries, paralysis and mobility related disabilities; and the MAPC focuses on finding a cure for people with Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders.

Williams was a longtime supporter of the above charities, and even participated in a number of different advertisements to promote the organizations. Check out just one of the many spots he did below:
