With the season premiere finally upon us, Fox has been promoting their upcoming DC Comics series nonstop over the summer. This is the perfect opportunity to show our excitement about the Batman prequel series, Gotham, starring Jada Pinkett-Smith, Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue.

Gotham has come a long way since the show got picked up. The police procedural crime drama then built word-of-mouth at San Diego Comic-Con. With the upcoming preimiere, here are 5 reasons why Gotham should be on everyone's must-see list.

5) Fish Mooney

Mooney (Smith) is an original character made specifically for the TV show. In the comics, such as The Long Halloween, there has always been a war brewing between the freaks and the mob families. Is Fish strong and powerful enough to take on the Dark Knight baddies?

4) The Unsolvable Wayne Murders

The Wayne Murder Case has never been solved in the Batman comics. Sure the caped crusader found the murderer, Joe Chill, who shot his parents, but he never understood the reason why. Even writers have played around with the origin story, implying that Chill's mother eventually became young Bruce Wayne's nanny.

3) Batman Rogue Gallery

We're going to see how low-level snitch Oswald Copplebot (Robin Taylor) becomes the most feared mob boss, The Penguin, in Gotham. In a surprising turn, The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) starts out as a good guy, using his genius to help the police.

2) The Joker

Will the clown prince of crime show up? Will the show writers bring the Red Hood and his gang into the fold? Rumors keep swirling that the Comedian shows up in the pilot, but will he actually appear?

1) Good Cop/Bad Cop

Deviating from the comics, Bullock (Logue) and Gordon (McKenzie) are at the starting point of the dynamic partnership. Harvey thinks his partner is a weak rookie, while Jim cannot stand his comrade breaking the rules. Can they put aside their differences and work together as they attempt to solve the Wayne Murders?

Gotham premieres on Fox Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. Readers, are you excited to see the season premiere?
