Rob Bironas, former kicker of the NFL's Tennessee Titans, has died. He was involved in an overnight car crash in Nashville, Tennessee, USA Today confirmed.

Bironas was 36 years old.

The Titans announced the sad news via a three-part statement on Twitter on Sunday morning.

"We are deeply saddened to hear the tragic news from last night about Rob Bironas,
the team said. "Rob made a significant impact as a player in his nine years with the team and more importantly touched many lives in the Nashville community off the field. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Rachel, and his family during this very difficult time."

According to police reports, Bironas lost control of his 2009 GMC Yukon Denali, which was traveling at high speeds, and ultimately crashed into a line of trees just after 11 p.m. The site of the crash was apparently less than a mile from his home, which he shared with his wife, Rachel Bradshaw, daughter of NFL legend Terry Bradshaw.

Immediately following the accident, Bironas was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Bironas' official Twitter page also confirmed the news, stating, "It's w/ heavy hearts that we confirm the passing [of] RB # 2. We appreciate your respect for the family's privacy and your prayers at this time."

Upon his release from the team in March, Bironas departed the Titans as their second-leading scorer with 1,032 points, as well as their leader in game-winning field goals with 11.
